Abstract:

Random walks and spectral analysis on graphs are classical tools for the analyzing large graphs, and for finding cuts, clusters, rankings in graphs, as well as for approximating functions on graphs arising from data sets in high-dimensional spaces. We discuss novel ideas that allow to study random walks on graphs in a multiscale fashion, allowing one to analyze the geometry of graphs at multiple scales, as well as study functions on graphs in a multiscale, wavelet-like fashion. Machine learning tasks, sparse function approximation on graphs, multiscale/hierarchical visualization and active learning with human-in-the-loop, network dynamics and dynamics of networks are developing applications of this framework.
